Isn't it so true? I find it hard to remain joyful when I am tempted to compare myself with others rather than enjoying the full life God has given me. But we all do it at some point. We all find ourselves comparing what we have, what we do, who we are, with someone else. And then how do we feel after we have sized ourselves up with another? I know I either feel inadequate or I feel prideful. It just depends on how I think I measure up. It's almost impossible not to let thoughts of comparison invade.

I am who I am, I have what I have, I do what I do because He made me this way. He put me here and He gave me these gifts and my possessions. Why do I feel like I need to keep up with everyone else? It's the general thinking of the world and I am so guilty of it.

What matters instead is that I use my gifts to glorify Him the best way I know how. When I cook, clean, sew, create, entertain, mother my children, I do it in worship to Him. I need to live within my means, not spend frivolously to keep up. I must look at my body {after giving birth to two} as beautiful, healthy, and unique instead of wishing it was different. And the gifts God has given me? I must use them in the best way I know how to give Him all the glory and serve others around me.

I need to find my identity in Christ. I am who I am because of Him, not because of what I own, how well I do something, or how I look.

I know it is also my job, as a mother, to help and guide my children to find their identity in Christ. Isn't it so easy and tempting to play the comparison game with our children and push them to be someone they're not? My children are growing, learning, and just trying to be who God created them to be with unique abilities and gifts. I don't want to force them to try to live up to someone else or something else. My job is to nurture them exactly where they are and who they are.

The world's expectations are always changing, always out of reach. But Christ waits with open arms to receive us and accept us right where we are and use us if we are willing.

I challenge you, friends, to find JOY not in chasing things out of reach but only in the One who is just waiting for you to meet you right where you are. What AMAZING things is He going to accomplish through you?

What I'm SO EXCITED About Right Now...

My mama coming to stay the weekend!! She always make's it feel even more like home when she's here!! Oh, and did I mention her YUMMY cooking??

Seven years ago today, my life was changed.

I lost my Daddy.

I signed the papers to take him off of life support.

It was the hardest day of my life.

I have been planning for weeks to tell the story of what happened and how it changed everything forever.

But now that the day is here, I can't seem to find the words, through the tears.

I'll try another day.

No matter what the past looked like, or how old you get, there is always an unmistakable bond between parents and their children.

No matter how much time goes by or how things in life change, there is always a part of us that still needs to curl up in our parents arms sometimes, to make everything okay.

I miss you Daddy!

This is a word that I struggle with!! I mean, REALLY struggle with!! So much, that it becomes overwhelming at times!!

Like right now, I am typing this with one hand, while Lexie holds my other hand playing with my wedding ring, while we are sitting on my bed watching "The Cat in the Hat," and I am waiting for the moment that she realizes that I am typing on my laptop, and closes it for me because she wants "mama's full attention." You know THOSE times! The bitter, sweet times. The struggle between making your kids feel important and getting other stuff done, too.

As a Mom, there is a constant struggle between what we want to be doing and what needs to be done!!

LIKE, I am

a mom of a very inquisitive 5 year old boy, Ethan
a mom to a very active 3 year old girl, Lexie
a mom to a very sweet 11 year old cat, Cookie
a mom to a very playful 7 year old cat, Chloe
a mom to a very loyal 6 year old dog, Zack
a wife, to a wonderful, hard-working, very loving man.

a niece
a cousin
a granddaughter
a friend

AND I am a GIRL........

a girl who loves to take long bubble baths
a girl who loves to read a good book or magazine
a girl who loves to write
a girl who loves to blog
a girl who loves photography
a girl who loves to get manis and pedis
a girl who loves to go out on the boat
a girl who loves to ride four-wheelers
a girl who loves to craft and make special things for the ones she loves
a girl who loves to talk on the phone to her BFF's
a girl that LOVES to spend time with all the people that she LOVES

So how do you balance all this AND have clean clothes to wear??

Lexie just turned 3 at the end of December. She has grown up SO SO much over the past 6 months!!! She's not my little-bitty baby anymore, she is an all out "prissy little girl" now.

From the day she was born, she has been by my side 24/7!! We even had to stop going to church because when we would take her to the nursery at church she would cry until she threw up and they always had to page us to come get her. I guess you could say that she is "just a little" attached.

I made the very hard decision last week to put her in preschool 2 days a week. I never thought that I would because, after-all, I am a stay at home mom, to "stay home" with my kids, but I decided that it wasn't healthy for her to be so attached to me and need me so much. I mean, what if something happened to me. It turns my stomach to even think of my kids not having me there to take care of every little thing, but it upsets me even more to think of them being SO SO dependent on me and loosing me. So, I decided that it was time to start letting go a little. As hard as it is to see her cry when I leave, and to not run back and grab her up in my arms, I know that this is good for her!

Monday was her very first day. I just knew they would call me within 30 minutes to tell me that she was throwing up and I needed to come get her, so when my cell rang on my way home, my heart stopped! It was the teacher calling to tell me that she had stopped crying and was doing great and having fun playing!!

When we went to pick her up at the end of the day, she was playing on the playground with a group of girls. She said that she wasn't ready to go home, yet! What?? The child that NEVER leaves my side for a second and won't even let me go in the bathroom without her? Who is this "new little girl" and what did they do with my child??

It was AMAZING to see the difference in her!! Her teacher said that she didn't cry once after I left and did great. Oh, and GET THIS...... she even said that she laid down on her mat and WENT TO SLEEP!!!!

DOUBLE WHAT???

MY CHILD???

The one that has to have ME laying by her side and has to hold on to my hair to even begin to go to sleep! I was totally and completely AMAZED!!

Today is her second day to go. She has been ready to go back to "her school" all week, but when the time came this morning, she changed her mind. And yes, she cried again when I left her, and my cell rang again on my way home, with her teacher on the other end, assuring me that she was fine and having a good time.

Letting go is HARD!!! But as hard is it is on me, I know that this is the best thing for her. She is making new friends, learning new things, and gaining some independence. I know that she is in good hands and I feel really good about where she is. I know this feeling of peace that I have, is God's way of telling me, "Kristy, she is fine. I am taking care of her!"

I LOVE waking up to THIS everyday!!!

As I got Ethan out of bed and was carrying him to the family room, he said,"Mom, we sure are growing up on you fast." He literally took the thoughts straight out of my head!!! I hugged him a little tighter and a little longer this morning!!

AND, did I mention that today is Lexie's 1st day of Preschool.

They grow up WAY to fast!!!

A New Season

Have you ever been in a season of life that seems never-ending?

Maybe it's a difficult time in your life, or a stressful time, or even a really sad time.

Whatever it is your going through, there are times when it seems like life will never get better,

but somehow it ALWAYS does!!

These seem to be the times in life that we grow the most.

That we learn the most.

These are the seasons of life that make us appreciate the good times even more!

I LOVE my babies more than I could have ever imagined! They truly complete our little family, and I could NOT imagine my life without them in it, EVERYDAY!!!

BUT

I have to admit that I'm pretty excited to see a new season begin.

A little sad, but MUCH MORE excited!!!

We've had almost 6 whole years of the BABY SEASON.

Ethan had just turned 2 when we found out that I was pregnant with Lexie. So he was about 2 years and 9 months when we had her. So it was kinda like, as soon as we got one baby out of diapers, eating on his own, and able to communicate his needs to us, then we started over with another new born. And Lexie has literally been attached to me ever since. Well, not literally, but sometimes it does feel like I have an extra arm or leg or other weird extension!

The last (almost) 6 years have been filled with all the cutesy baby stuff. BUT along with the cute stuff, comes the not-so-cute stuff. Like the zillions of diapers, the sleepless nights, the hysterical crying when your precious little one can't tell you whats wrong, and the list goes on and on...

And... not to complain or anything, but we had a couple of not-so-easy babies!

Colic that seemed to last FOREVER (even though it was only a couple of months), a baby that would NOT sleep through the night until she was 2 (and still wakes up quiet a bit)...just to name a few.

This new season of our life includes NO diapers!!
It includes us getting a date night because Lexie was FINALLY ok with being babysat by her Aunt Lucy!
It includes us being able to get back into church because Lexie has stopped crying until she throws up in the nursery!
It includes us signing her up for 2 days a week of preschool, today!!!!!
(You have no idea how BIG this is for us!!!)

Yes, Lexie's VERY FIRST day alone at preschool will be Monday! I am already feeling a ton of different emotions, but I know that this will be good for us both. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers until then, please!! We will need it! ;)

A Day in the Life

A typical day in our house is slightly less than glamorous, but I have to admit, I'm SO loving things right now!! We all know that I'm not a planner or a schedule keeper, by any means, but that's how we like it around here!! With Ryan's CRAZY work schedule, everyday is a little different, which actually fits in with our family pretty well!!

Here's a little peek at how we start a "typical" week day in our house...

I get up around 6am...6:30am...or maybe even sometimes closer to 7am (depending on how much sleep my precious babies let me get that night).

I stumble into the family room and turn on The Disney Channel, put on a pot of coffee, and fix Ethan some breakfast.

Then I go get him out of bed, carry him to the recliner in the family room, cover him up with a blanket and bring him his breakfast.

While he is waking up and having breakfast, I fix his school lunch and bring him his school clothes.

I get dressed (normally a pony tail and comfy clothes) then come back and help him brush his teeth and fix his hair.

This is our "mama and me" time before the day starts! I LOVE it!

Then I get Lexie out of bed and we take Ethan to school.

When we get back home, Lexie and I have our "mama and me" time.

This is when we lounge around on the couch while I drink my coffee and Lexie drinks her Chocolate/ Strawberry milk.

There's lots of cuddles, hugs and kisses, cartoon watching, book reading, and lots and lots of snuggle time!!

I use to try and rush this time, so we could get our day started, but I have learned to embrace it!!!

I have learned that THIS is what life is all about and I won't get this time forever!

It will be gone before I know it, so for now I embrace it and I LOVE IT!!!

A Free Spirit

Did you know that...I am totally sporadic? Like, decide on Friday afternoon (while waiting in the carpool line at the school), that I'll pack up the kids and me, and go on a 9 hour road trip to see Ryan for the weekend. Oh, and did I mention the 9 hours back home, 2 days later? Yep, that's just how I roll. I've always been the total "No Plan, Just Do" type of girl. And I have to admit, I kinda love that about me!! ;)

Ryan has been away from home, for work, since the beginning of last week and it has been tough on everyone involved (him....the kids.....ME)!! How in the world did we use to do this every week?? Both kids were crying for their daddy the 1st night he was gone. Thank goodness he will be heading home this afternoon, too!!!

So back to the 18 hours or so that we spent in the car this weekend...

Aside from the couple of screaming matches, we actually had a really good time!! I think when you are forced to stay in a confined space together for a long period of time, you either bond or end up not speaking to each other. Luckily, we bonded!!! In fact we had so much fun, that we decided that we should get an old bus, paint it pink (Lexie and my idea), and fill it with comfy couches, for our next road trip!! So this morning when I went on Pinterest, I had to laugh when this was one of the first pictures that I saw!!

When a new year begins, we normally reflect on the previous year (ya know, the things that we did and did not accomplish), and we start planning and making resolutions for the new year. I have been doing this A LOT lately!!

When I started blogging, this was just a place to put pictures and stories for our family and close friends to read. Then, this past June, I got the WONDERFUL opportunity to become a full-time stay at home mama, for the first time ever!! This is when I started blogging more, began researching and learning about the whole blogging thing, meeting blogging friends, and really getting into it all. There are SO many things that I LOVE about blogging and the whole community that goes with it! Too many to list right now ;)

But just like with anything else: with growth, comes stress. You know what I mean, like as your numbers grow, you start paying more and more attention to them. Then you start wanting them to grow even more. Or you start spending so much time researching and learning about this whole thing, that you don't even have enough time to respond to all the great e-mails and comments that you get.

Before long, what started out as a fun hobby, starts feeling like a stressful job and taking time away from your family. And since this is not my job (being a stay at home mama is, as my loving husband reminds me), I don't want that for this blog!! So I have been thinking and praying about this. I don't want this blog to take time away from my family, I want it to be enjoyed by my family! I want to use it to help others!!! I don't want to just post everyday because I feel like I have to. I want to post because I feel like I have something great to share or that I am blessing someone in some way!!

SOOO...with that said, I am going to be changing a few things around here. I am going to start focusing on the wonderful community and friendships, and NOT the numbers!! I am going to be focusing on how I can use this blog to help others, and NOT how I can grow this blog. I want to write because I want to, not because I feel like I have to. I want to continue sharing our life, our stories, beautiful pictures, words of inspiration, lessons learned, and all my random thoughts. But I also want to interact with YOU and help YOU more!! In other words, I want to get back to the things that I LOVE about blogging and get rid of the things that I don't!!

I'm not exactly sure what all this means yet, but I do have some pretty big plans and am so excited to start this NEW YEAR and NEW JOURNEY with you all!!

Let Us Count the Ways...

I have been a really bad blogger and friend...

Hmmm I haven't blogged in exactly a week now (do you think that makes me a bad blogger??)
I have over 300 unread emails (392 to be exact), so no, your's is not the only one that I haven't responded to
I have gotten worse at returning phone calls (is that even possible??)
I NEVER check or update my Facebook
I haven't checked in with my favorite girls in FOREVER...so I have no idea what's going on in their lives (terrible I know!!)
I didn't send out Christmas cards this year!!!

And now, for my list of excuses...

My baby girl (enough said!)
The stomach bug invaded our house and held us hostage for almost a whole week
Christmas shopping until 1a.m.
Climbing shelves at ToysRUs to get the very last Disney Princess Castle (yes, I did!)
Teaching Ethan to make jewelry out of pipe cleaners, and then him making me wrap EACH and EVERY one individually! Yep, now you all know what you will be getting to wear on Christmas Day!!
Driving around and looking at Christmas lights EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

And now, for my list of excuses why this probably won't get much better for a few more days...

Love Languages

After reading Casey's post on Love Languages, which you can find here, I had an AH-HA moment!! I have read The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman a couple of times, but I have always just related the book to my marriage. How this can make mine and Ryan's relationship stronger. How I can LOVE HIM better. How I can make him feel loved and appreciated as the husband, daddy, provider, and soul mate that he is.

I never really thought to relate it to the other relationships in my life. My relationship with my little ones. My relationship with my parents. My relationship with my friends.

But now that I think about it, it makes perfect sense!! Why didn't I see this before? Everyone has a love language. A certain "way" that they show love and a certain "way" they receive it. Not just marriages.

Just in case you have never read The Five Love Languages, here's a list of them:

1. Words of Affirmation

2. Quality Time

3. Gifts

4. Acts of Service

5. Physical Touch

My love language is 100% quality time. I'm sure that you've noticed this by just reading some of my past post. To me, it is VERY important to "be there!!" To show up!! And to be completely present, while you are there. Like sometimes when Ryan has worked a lot, and then he finally has some time off, I tend to get my feelings hurt if he chooses to spend half of his day doing stuff outside or in the garage. I feel like he is choosing to not spend time with me. But that is not what he is doing at all. He is just thinking that he is getting stuff done, that needs to be done, or maybe even doing a few things that he enjoys during his "downtime." It has nothing to do with me, but here I am getting my feelings hurt because I don't understand why he wouldn't want to spend ALL that time he has off with me and the kids. This is because my LOVE LANGUAGE is quality time, but his is not. His LOVE LANGUAGE is physical touch. We could be together 24/ 7, but have no "cuddle time" and my "love tank" would be full, but his would not. For him, we could spend a couple of hours cuddling on the couch, watching a movie, and his "love tank" would then be full. Understanding this, has made a world of difference for me!!

But I haven't ever really considered this with my other relationships.

With my kids.

With my parents.

With all the important people in my life.

Like when Ethan or Lexie act out, I automatically think they are tired, cranky, or just acting up. I don't stop to think, "Is their love tank full?" They both really crave quality time and physical touch. So of coarse, the days that I'm busy with other things, they are probably going to act out because their love tanks are empty. If I just put the "other things" to the side and focus on them for a while it normally makes things 100% better. Because I am filling up their love tanks.

The same thing applies to ALL other relationships!!

I tend to get my feelings hurt, when people aren't there. When they don't show up. I see now, that this is because my love language is "quality time." "Time" is how I show and receive love. To me, if someone really loves you and cares about you, they don't miss anything. They are there for everything, no matter what it takes. I have always thought that when people don't show up, that means that you aren't really important to them. Like if I had an event when I was growing up, that meant a lot to me, I felt SO loved by the people that were just simply there. If I asked someone to come and show their support, and they didn't make it, I was automatically hurt. Or on Christmas, someone could come visit and spend time with me without bringing a gift at all, and it meant more to me than the person, who sent 10 gifts, but didn't even make an effort to see me! I have to admit, I still feel this way, but I am working on it!!

Because of this, I in return, show love, through giving my time. I try REALLY hard to be there for everything!! Maybe even TOO much sometimes...lol. When my BFF, Stacey, was having her first baby, she had an appointment to go in and get induced. She lives almost 2 hours from me, but let me tell you, I drug Ryan to that hospital and we were there right after she got there. I think she was pretty shocked to see me so soon. We sat in that waiting room ALL day went home and slept, and then came back the next day. Let me tell you, I WAS THERE...lol. Her family probably thought, what in the world are they doing sitting here this whole time...lol.

This is just how I show love.

Now I see, that it is important to realize that everyone has a different love language. You have to figure out how people receive love, to know how to show them love!!!

I could have sat in the waiting room at the hospital for a week and thought that I was showing Stacey so much love, and she could have been thinking, "why didn't she just send a gift"...lol.

This is why it is so important to be aware of your own love language, along with the love language of all the other people in your life that you LOVE!!

I think EVERYONE should read this book, whether you are married or not!!! It really has helped me in so many ways!! I don't get my feelings hurt near as much anymore because I realize that sometimes people ARE showing love, even when I think they are not. They are just using a different language.

And I now feel that I can LOVE the ones I LOVE, much better!!!

I've had lots of things twirling around in my head that I want to blog about, but for some reason I can't seem to write a complete thought today (maybe it's the 2 year old that's by my side).

Hmmm... so anyway I thought it would be a great time for a couple of RANDOMS!! So here we go...

We put the Christmas tree up this weekend. It has a very pretty focal point that just happens to be right at the kids eye level, where there are at-least 2 ornaments on EVERY limb. Very Festive, I must say!

The kids opened the DVD "Barbie ~ A Perfect Christmas" yesterday, and we have watched it like 7658655675786 times since. (I have to admit, I've been pretty into it, too.) Did you know that Skipper, Barbie's sister, blogs?? (Yes, I did just say that....)

Someone must have sprinkled some pixie dust {see, too much Barbie or is that Tinker Bell...anyway} around here, because Ethan and Lexie have been getting along better than EVER the last 2 weeks!! Like playing together, sitting in the recliner together, playing a computer game together, and even taking up for each other when they get in trouble!!! Truly AMAZING!!

I have come to the realization that as long as I have a child at home with me all day, everyday, the house will NEVER be completely clean! And I'm ok with that!

And that's all I've got for now...

This MAMA got 2 whole days and 2 whole nights, to herself without any kids!!!

This is literally the longest I have been kid-free in 3 years.

SERIOUSLY!!

What did this MAMA get done during this miraculous time, you might ask?

Absolutely NOTHING.

Yep, the house is still a mess. Laundry is still piled up.

BUT, oh did I enjoy doing "NOTHING!"

YES I DID!!

Now I've got to go clean up from "my doing nothing."

Sending YOU a Blessing

Wow, is all I can say right now!!

So this afternoon I took my kids to stay with my parents and if you read this post, you will know how much of a blessing that is for me right now. So I left there, and was driving back home alone. Keep in mind that this is the first time that I have been completely alone in a LONG time. I have to admit, I was feeling pretty excited about it!! I was thinking about all the things that I could get done....catch up on some girl talk with my BFF's...... do some Christmas shopping....... get the house COMPLETELY clean with no one there to follow me around and mess it up.....or maybe just do nothing (rest)......ahh the possibilities seem endless!!!!

So I'm flipping through the radio stations as I'm driving (after all, I can jam to WHATEVER I want to right now), and I stop to listen to a man talking about "How to Get God's Best for Your Life." We all know that I LOVE a good inspirational talk, right?!?! Just makes me feel all warm and happy, so I listened. And I listened. And I wrote down the website and came home and listened some more. As a matter of fact, that is ALL that I have done since dropping the kids off is listen to this man!!! Inspired isn't even a good word to explain what I feel right know!! This man is A.MAZ.ING!!! This man's name is Chip Ingram. He has a whole series of pod-casts on his website that are free to download right now. I just downloaded them ALL!!! I plan to listen to them A LOT!!! I could not listen to one more, before I shared this with you though!!!! After all, I just listened to the one below, where he talks about the ONLY way to be truly happy. Being a BLESSER to others is one of the 3 requirements!! I hope this BLESSES YOU like it has blessed me!!!

You can listen to broadcasts streaming live or you can download podcasts so that you can listen over and over. I think that the pod-casts are only available to download for a limited time for free. I've always been a dreamer.

As long as I can remember, I would lay in bed awake for hours and hours dreaming about the life that I wanted.

The places I wanted to go.

The things I wanted to experience.

The people that I wanted to share it all with.

The girl I wanted to be!

I have never been afraid to chase my dreams and have never really let anything hold me back.

I'm a total "fly by the seat of my pants" type of girl.

A free-spirit.

Totally not a planner.

An "if your not happy with it, then change it" kind of girl.

Some people see it as "not committing." I see it as "NOT SETTLING!"

Not settling for anything, but what makes you completely HAPPY.

The way I see it is, if your not happy with your job, find a different one.

If your not happy with where you live, find a new place.

If your not happy with your style, change it.

If you are not happy with the person you are, then change.

Luckily, I married a guy, that looks at life the same way!! When we were teenagers we would drive around for hours finding new places and talking about our dreams. We would get on his wave-runner and ride around the lake for hours dreaming about what kind of home we would make for our family one day.

Since we have been on our own, if we aren't happy with the way things are (jobs, towns, etc.), we change it. That's just us!

My Fur Babies

I realized that there are 3 very important parts of my life that I have barely even mentioned on this blog!!

Meet Cookie & Chloe & Zack

(My Fur Babies)

Cookie is 11 years old!

I adopted him from Pet-Smart in Dallas in December of 2000.

He was just a kitten, then. He has been with me through it all....college, apartments, first houses, marriage, pregnancy, bringing new babies home...and on and on.

He likes to sleep on my head and even covers my eyes up with his paws sometimes!!

LOVE HIM!!!

Chloe is 7 years old.

We got her right after we got married, so she is our wedding baby.

We adopted her from Petland, in Tyler, in the Fall of 2004.

She is tiny and she LOVES to cuddle!!

LOVE HER!!!

Zack is 6 years old.

We got him when I was pregnant with Ethan.

He came up on our land one day in the Fall of 2005, when he was just a tiny fur-ball!!!

He fit in the family perfectly!!

He is the sweetest dog and minds WAY better than the kids do!!!

He is also our protector that lets us know if anything is wrong!!

LOVE HIM!!!

I have ALWAYS had a huge place in my heart for animals. It's a BIG part of who I am!!

A Little Inspiration

We went to the doctor yesterday, after fighting off (what we thought were just) colds, for over a week. Turns out both kids have tonsillitis. Lexie has an ear infection in both ears and Ethan in one. I have acute bronchitis. After a shot for me, and meds for all 3 of us, we were sent on our way. I thought a few inspirational quotes would be great for the soul today!!!

Thank you all SO much, from the bottom of my heart!!! I got so many SWEET, encouraging emails and comments after this post the other day. I can't even explain how much all your words warmed my heart and made me feel SO SO much better!!! It is SO nice to know that we are not alone in the tough times!! This just reminded me, once again, why I LOVE blogging and the wonderful community that we have here! I really can't imagine my life without it now!! You all mean so much to me!!!!

Sarah left this in her comment: "On an airplane they tell us to make sure that we put the oxygen mask on ourselves BEFORE we put them on our children or anyone else. They tell us this because if we aren't being taken care of we will not be able to take care of anyone else. The same is true about being a mother."

That comment struck me, like REALLY struck me!!! Like, might have changed my life, struck me!!!!!!

Thank you SO much Sarah!!!!

I always feel like I am being selfish if I do anything at all for myself. Like if I spend money on myself, I feel incredibly bad because I do not work, anymore.

If I spend time doing something I enjoy, I feel bad because I feel like there are a million other things that I need to use my time to do (laundry, cleaning, cooking).

If I'm not completely taking care of the kids when Ryan is home, I feel guilty because he is the one who goes to work everyday and needs the break.

So while I think that I'm doing the right thing for everyone else, I'm actually doing the worst thing that I can for them!!! I'm not giving them the "good version of me." I'm giving them the "tired, worn-out, overwhelmed, burnt out, grumpy (and probably dirty) version." And who wants that?? I'm sure that Ryan would much rather take care of the kids for an hour when he gets home so that I can take a bath and rejuvenate myself, so that he can have a clean and happy wife, verses having a not-so-clean, grumpy one! And I'm sure that taking a day every month or so to get my hair done and maybe shop a little ALONE won't hurt anyone!!! And it sure will make this mama feel A LOT better!!!

So from this day on, I pledge to take better care of MY HUSBAND'S WIFE and MY KID'S MAMA,

so that she can be the BEST WIFE and MAMA possible!!!!

Overwhelmed and Guilty

Lately, I have been feeling EXTREMELY overwhelmed!! I feel so guilty even saying these words, because I know that I have SO much to be thankful for. I am SO blessed in SO many ways, I know!! But I can't seem to shake it. This is just how I'm feeling. I always said I want to be true to this blog and be REAL. The good, the bad, the pretty, the ugly, and everything in between. So here I am, being real and not so pretty!!!

This is why I've been quiet around here lately. I was feeling like EVERYTHING was getting out of control. The laundry was piled up all over the living room floor, the dishes were piled up in the sink, there was no food in the house worth eating.....I could go on and on, but I'll stop there. So I took some time to focus on the house, the laundry, the groceries..... Did it work? Well, I do feel caught up in these areas, but now I feel overwhelmed with something else. Something that I can't really explain. Lack of community, maybe? Kid overload? Yes, I said it!! Kid overload. It can happen, and I think that it has happened in this house!!!

I realized that writing and blogging is something FOR ME. Something that I enjoy. Actually, something that I love. I LOVE the community we have here between all of us girls, especially for those of us that do stay home with kids all.day.every.day! I LOVE the encouragement that we get from each other on everything from FAITH to parenting to hair styles. I just LOVE it!! But honestly, my 2 year old doesn't. She thinks that every second of her awake time should be spent doing exactly what she wants (with me doing it to). And considering that she doesn't sleep any more than I do, that doesn't leave much time in between. She will literally close my laptop for me or take my phone away from me. So I give in, because I feel like that she is only little once. That I should give her "all of me" right now. But in the mean time, the emails pile up and the phone calls pile up, all unanswered. Then I start feeling out of touch with the other people that I love in my life. My husband. My other family. My friends. My fellow bloggers. EVERYTHING else that doesn't have to do with Barbie or My Little Pony. Then I feel guilty about that.

I, like many other moms, spend LITERALLY 24/7 with a toddler, and all "non-school hours" with my 5 year old. I LOVE them more than I can put into words, but my sanity is being very tested!! I feel like I have begun to loose "ME." The me that LOVES to spend time with my friends and family. The me that LOVES to talk to them for hours and hours. The me that wants to go to the gym. The me that wants to take a yoga class. The me that wants to learn to sew. The me that wants to have dinner alone with my husband every now and then (and maybe even a movie). The me that loves community. The me that wants to be able to sit in silence and read a book. The me that I was before "the mama" COMPLETELY took over. BUT......

I'm the type of mom that feels SO guilty to ask anyone for help, so I don't.

I don't want to put anyone out by asking them to keep my kids even for a hour, so I don't.

I feel like it was my choice to have them, so I shouldn't expect other people to help raise them, so I don't. And I feel like that if other family wants to spend time with them, they will call and ask for them, so I don't.

I know I could pay for a babysitter or childcare every now and then, but how selfish of me to do that when I don't even work, so I don't.

So I sit here overwhelmed with toddler demands. phone calls and emails not returned. a sewing machine still sitting in the box that it came in TWO YEARS AGO (YES, I said TWO years ago). unwashed hair. toys all over the place. I sit here (dare I say it) burnt-out!!

And burnt-out is not good for anyone involved, I know. Not even the 2 year old that is getting all of me. I feel like that if I had a little time to refresh, to do things that I love without fighting all the way through it, to recharge my "mama battery" that I would be better. A better mama. A better wife. A better friend. A better ME.

There has to be a balance. A middle ground. So what do I do? Do I beg for help? Do I pay for childcare 1 day a week? I don't really know what the solution is right now, but I know that it IS TIME to find one!!!!! I know that I'm not the first mom to go through this and I won't be the last.....so any words of wisdom or any advice will be VERY VERY appreciated!!!!! Thank you for listening to this overwhelmed mama!! ;)

While I was sitting outside watching my kids play yesterday, I realized something.

I realized that they are growing up.

I was watching Lexie run down our long driveway......she looked SO tall!!
When did that happen??

Last night, Ethan was reading a book to me. He read the whole book.....big words and all.
He didn't need my help.
When did this happen?

I started thinking......Do I really take it "ALL" in EVERY.DAY?

The way that their little voices sound.

The way that their little hands feel in mine.

The way that they fit perfectly, snuggled in my lap.

The way that they want to shower me with hugs and kisses.

The way they say "I love you" a zillion times a day.

The way that they are at this very moment in time.

Do I take the time to sit and just be present EVERY.DAY??

Or am I too worried about the dishes. the laundry. the other stuff??

If I died tomorrow, what would I want my last day on earth to look like??

Do you ever REALLY think about that question?

Are you living your days doing the things that you love, with the people that you love most??

Or are you waiting for another day??
A day when the housework is caught up?
A day when all your obligations are met?
A day when everything else is done??

Respect the people that find time for you in their busy schedule.

But

LOVE the people who NEVER look at their schedule when it's important to you!!!

I spend WAY to much time saying...

Hello! I am Michelle and I blog over at The Momma Bird. I write about life, traveling, parenthood, and anything else that comes to mind! I would love if you stopped by & said hello! Don't forget to introduce yourself - I love meeting my readers! Anyway, I was so excited when Kristy asked me to do a guest post for her! I had so many ideas it was hard to nail it down, with Kristy's help I decided on Life in England. Enjoy!

Last October we made the big move from West Texas to ENGLAND! With an 18 month old & 3 month old in tow, we made it. When we first moved here everyone kept asking us if it was "so cool" and "awesome", and to be honest, there was so much to do. We really didn't even have a chance to relish in the fact that we were now in a whole new country! After we finally got settled into our house and had all of our household goods and cars, things were getting better and we were able to finally ENJOY being here. We took our first tourist trip on Christmas Eve to Warwick Castle about 2 hrs from where we live. It was very cool to see how much history is in this country.

One of the most difficult parts for me was learning all the new road signs and round-a-bouts! I was so nervous about those things - I am better now but I still get a tad nervous when I get to the massive ones near London with over 8 exits! Eek!

I have absolutely grown accustomed to life in a little village. I love the home town feel of it and the slow pace of life. We take walks on nice days and just embrace the beauty around us. Last week our dog had a vet appointment and it was only a 5 minute walk down the street to take her. I kept thinking how cool it was that I didn't have to get in my car and go drive her somewhere! It's the simple things - am I right?!

A few months after we arrived here in the UK, some dear British friends of ours came to stay with us over New Years. (they were my parents neighbors in the states for a few years) They are the ones that brought us to our first pub. What a fun experience! And let me tell you - the fish & chips here are NOTHING compared to anything you'll get in the states. SO yummy!

i HAD to do it

One thing that was hard for me was learning the money. I know it seems silly but when you have only been used to American money - learning a new one is hard! Not to mention the fact that, "who really uses cash a lot these days?!" I remember a few months into living here I went to pay at the till (register) and I looked at the lady and told her I had no idea how much change I had. She was so sweet, she counted it all out for me and told me what everything was. The hubs was so embarrassed that I hadn't learned it yet as he's the master at learning and knew it all already!

People have asked me if it's hard being away from all of our family & friends. The first 6 months here were really rough for me. I just had a baby that summer, I was adjusting to life as a SAHM instead of working full time, and the days are crazy short here in the winter. There were so many times the hubs would come home from work and I would tell him that I didn't think I could do the SAHM thing. I struggled with finding my identity & place. I started attending a playgroup on base and that helped out SO much. I also started to Skype with my family and friends more often. Blogging also became a huge outlet for me. Being a military wife/living abroad isn't for everyone - but I think if you try to make the best of it, you can do it.

My favorite part about living here right now is just the experience of it all. The traveling, culture, and beauty of it. I mean, how many people can actually say they lived in another country for a few years in their life?! (well, i did live in germany when i was a kid for 4 yrs - dad was usaf too) I also love that my little C. is already getting a slight British accent. I can't wait until he goes to British preschool next year so it can really show up!

People often ask me what I miss about the States. Umm - TARGET! ha ha Well, that and the restaurants. I know, shallow right?! But it's totally true. Shopping here can be quite expensive so I pretty much don't ever do it. And yes they do have restaurants here, but it's nothing like the states. We have a few chain restaurants about 15 minutes from our house but the variety is pretty slim. They are big into pubs - of course - but pubs can be hit or miss and it's all pretty much the same food. Oh how I would kill for some chic-fa-la or Logan's or Cheesecake Factory.....

Luckily we did find a Chipotle in London! You better believe every time we go to London we get it!

If any of you are ever considering traveling to Europe - I highly recommend it! You would NEVER regret it. The cultures here are amazing and the people are so nice. We haven't met a rude person yet. Struggle

I have been having a struggle lately. A struggle between my heart and my head, about this whole blogging thing!! What to share? What not to share? How much of "me" do I put out there? How much is TOO much?

My heart wants to pour out to you. It wants to tell "my story" in hopes of helping someone else. It wants to help others not make some of the same mistakes that I have made. It wants to let people know that they are not alone in situations that they may be facing. It wants to give hope, understanding, and perspective to those who need it. My heart feels like sharing more of me. my story. my journey. is what I'm suppose to be doing with this blog. Maybe it gives some of "my journey" a purpose. A purpose that is to help others going through similar things and show them how beautiful life can turn out.

But my head is holding me back. It is telling me to be careful how much I put out there. Once things are written, they are written. Once people know, they know. My kids will grow up one day, do they really want to read their mom's story on a blog?? I mean, I'm sure Lexie will already be pretty upset one day when she reads about her potty training here. ha

So how much is TOO much and how much is not enough?? I think we are all drawn to people that tell "their story" no matter how pretty or not so pretty it looks sometimes. It is SO encouraging and inspirational for me to read how other's make it through tough times, have such strong FAITH no matter what, and look at life so beautifully no matter what the situation. Honestly, reading some of my favorite blogs, has helped strengthen my relationship with Jesus. Helped me want to be a better wife and mother. Helped me want to be a better person.

So if parts of "my life" can do that for someone else, isn't it worth it?

OR is talking about my daddy being an alcoholic for the majority of my childhood, just TOO much to put out there on a blog that anyone can read?

I seriously would love your opinions!!! I need to know what you think!!!
